The lighting of the boundary wall highlights the architecture of the facility and the library building which is of cultural historical value. The indirect lighting achieved with light strips creates a wonderful aesthetic experience in the cityscape. The glare-free lighting creates visibility along paths, thus also improving safety for pedestrians.
Airam's Rigel light strip used for the wall lighting is very suitable for such long installations. The strip is sold in 50-metre reels but, if necessary, it can also be delivered at a set length. The IP44-class light strip can be connected directly to 230 V mains voltage. The light strip is available in two colour temperatures, 3000 K and 4000 K.
The project was realised cooperatively by Rexel, Oulun Lasipalvelu Oy and Caverion.
A traditional city library
The roots of Oulu City Library date back to 1877 when a municipal library, Kansankirjasto (people’s library) and reading room were established. After many moves, the new library building opened its doors on Vänmanninsaari island in 1982 in a central position by the market square.
The library building at the mouth of Oulujoki river is a modern specimen of concrete architecture, and a fundamental part of the monumental centre of the city. The library building and adjacent city theatre were designed by the architect couple of Marjatta and Martti Jaatinen. Almost 2 million people a year visit the library.
