Sustainability policy
Airam’s Sustainability Policy guides the company’s sustainability work. It provides strategic direction for Airam and is approved by Airam’s Annual General Meeting as part of the company’s governance code.
The Sustainability Policy defines how our sustainability work is linked to the company’s strategy and its implementation. The policy also sets out our key sustainability objectives, principles and commitments, the main roles and responsibilities related to sustainability, and our reporting procedures. Airam regularly collects feedback from stakeholders to develop its sustainability work and uses this information to update its sustainability policy.
Airam’s Board of Directors developed the Sustainability Policy in 2024 and reviews it at least once during each strategy period. The Board of Directors is responsible for maintaining the policy up to date and ensuring that it is followed.
Key objectives
Sustainability is embedded in Airam’s strategy, management and development. Our sustainability work has two objectives:
- To identify the most significant positive and negative impacts of our operations, and to manage and develop them in a way that supports a more sustainable future for people, the environment and society throughout our value chain.
- To meet the material sustainability expectations arising from regulatory requirements, customers and our other key stakeholders.
Principles and commitments
We are committed to the corporate responsibility initiatives and commitments that are most relevant to our business model, product range and operations:
- We support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, also known as Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- We participate in the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and are committed to the ten principles on social and environmental responsibility and ethical business conduct.
- We are members of amfori and are committed to the Code of Conduct on human rights and social responsibility (BSCI Code of Conduct) and to the Code of Conduct on environmental management (BEPI Code of Conduct). These codes are based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, internationally recognised environmental principles and workers’ rights.
- Airam’s Code of Conduct sets out the ethical business practices that Airam’s employees, management and members of the Board of Directors are required to follow in our own operations.
- Our approach to quality, environmental and occupational health and safety matters is defined in our Quality Policy, Environmental Policy and Occupational Health and Safety Policy. We manage and develop these matters through our ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified management system.
Airam’s Risk Management Policy and due diligence process guide our risk management related to the environment, people and governance. We consider both sustainability risks that may affect Airam’s finances and the impacts of our operations on human rights, the environment and society throughout our value chain.
We encourage our stakeholders to consider sustainability matters and promote responsible and ethical business conduct. We require our suppliers to commit to the amfori Codes of Conduct (amfori BSCI Code of Conduct and amfori BEPI Code of Conduct) and Airam’s Supplier Code of Conduct.
Focus areas of our sustainability work
Airam’s sustainability objectives are documented in the Sustainability Programme. The programme is based on a double materiality analysis, which considers both the impacts of our operations on the environment, people and society and the financial impact of sustainability matters on Airam throughout our value chain. The Sustainability Programme considers regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations related to sustainability matters.
We update our double materiality analysis and Sustainability Programme whenever significant internal or external changes occur, and at least when preparing a new strategy. This ensures that sustainability remains an impactful part of our strategy and business operations.
The Sustainability Programme has four focus areas: environmental responsibility, social responsibility, ethical and profitable business, and responsible supply chain. Each focus area includes the sub-themes identified in the double materiality analysis. The programme describes the practical content of our sustainability development work in the form of objectives and actions.
Sustainability management, roles and responsibilities
Airam’s Board of Directors confirms the company’s values and strategy, which form the foundation for our sustainability work during each strategy period. As part of annual planning, the Board of Directors confirms the focus areas of sustainability work for the coming year. The Board is responsible for organising the management of sustainability matters and integrating them into the company’s strategy and operations. The Board monitors the progress of sustainability work at least annually.
The Management Team decides on our most important sustainability commitments. It also sets Airam’s shared strategic sustainability objectives and annually reviews and approves the principles, objectives and actions of our sustainability work. Airam’s Management Team reviews the ISO-certified management system for quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management each year and is responsible for its appropriateness and effectiveness.
Together with the Management Team, the CEO is responsible for implementing sustainability objectives, monitoring progress regularly and ensuring reporting. At Management Team level, the CEO is responsible for Airam’s due diligence process and operational compliance.
At the operational level, Airam’s sustainability work is the responsibility of the Sustainability and Quality Manager, who is a member of Airam’s Extended Management Team. The Sustainability and Quality Manager coordinates the management of sustainability related risks, opportunities and impacts in practice. Their responsibilities include monitoring sustainability and environmental regulation, supporting business functions in sustainability work, planning and promoting sustainability objectives, and leading sustainability reporting at Airam. In practice, the Sustainability and Quality Manager is also responsible for maintaining and developing Airam’s quality and environmental management system, including the management of internal and external audits. The Sustainability and Quality Manager developes the Sustainability Programme and coordinates the setting of sustainability objectives.
Sales, product management, purchasing, logistics, finance, human resources and occupational health and safety also contribute to Airam’s sustainability work. Business areas and Group support functions integrate sustainability commitments and objectives into their planning and processes. Every employee of Airam is responsible for considering sustainability and environmental matters in their day-to-day work.
Reporting
The indicators used to monitor our sustainability work are defined in the Sustainability Programme and reporting model.
We collect information on the implementation of our sustainability objectives and the actions agreed to achieve them. The owners of the sustainability objectives report progress quarterly in meetings of the Extended Management Team. The Sustainability and Quality Manager reports to the Board of Directors once a year on the progress of our sustainability work and objectives.
In the annual management review, the Sustainability and Quality Manager reports to the Management Team on the results of internal and external audits. The Management Team uses this information to assess the level of environmental protection and the functioning of the environmental management system.
We report annually on the progress of our strategy and Sustainability Programme objectives in the sustainability report, which forms part of Airam’s annual report. We communicate the results actively and take different stakeholders into account.
We also report annually on our sustainability objectives and results through the UN Global Compact Communication on Progress report and the EcoVadis report, and on our climate work and emissions through the CDP report.
