How to succeed when buying lamps
It is easy to feel unsure in front of a store’s wide selection of led lamps. Choosing the right lamp is easy when you know these three most important rules of thumb:
- Start with the atmosphere and colour temperature. The colour temperature of light, kelvin K, tells you whether the lamp’s light is warm or cool white. The lower the kelvin value, the warmer the light. Choose warmer light for atmosphere and cooler light for task lighting.
- Choose the right brightness. Think about how much light you need. The lumen value, lm, shown on the packaging tells you the amount of light: a smaller amount of light is enough for creating atmosphere, while a higher amount is suitable for working and spaces where plenty of light is needed.
- Check the base and bulb shape. Make sure that the lamp base and bulb shape fit the luminaire. Take the old lamp with you to the store and check the model there.
Goodbye, plastic collar!
You may remember the plastic collar around led lamps? In Airam’s general lamp families Onni, Oiva and Otso, this plastic collar is now history, as the lamps are made entirely of glass. Thanks to the change, the lamps have a beautiful 360° all-around light beam.
