Effective workspace lighting supports focus and productivity
Suitable lighting is one of the most important aspects of workplace ergonomics. It affects concentration, energy levels and eye comfort. Proper workstation lighting supports both remote working in a home office and hobbies that require precision.
A workstation light is often a movable or adjustable desk lamp. The most important thing is to choose a solution with the features that best suit your needs.
Desk lamps are available with integrated or replaceable LEDs, various adjustment options and even magnifying features.
A good task light:
- is adjustable
- illuminates the work area precisely
- reduces glare
- provides a colour temperature suitable for productive work (4000–5000 K)
- offers good colour rendering (high CRI value)
Aim the light beam towards the keyboard to minimise reflections on your screen.

Homes include many different workspaces
In addition to home offices, many everyday tasks are carried out throughout the home. In utility rooms, storage spaces and maintenance areas, practicality is the most important lighting feature.
Good general lighting plays a key role in these spaces. Luminaires must be reliable and meet the specific requirements of the room, such as appropriate moisture protection, sufficient light output and automatic activation via motion sensors when needed. Dust-resistant luminaires are also ideal for renovation areas.
Glare-free general lighting created with a ceiling-mounted luminaire provides even illumination without creating harsh shadows. Additional task lighting can easily be added where needed, for example with a desk lamp.

Utility room lighting
LED strips or under-cabinet task lights work well for utility room or hobby room worktops. If power tools are used, consider task lights with integrated power sockets.
Utility rooms often also function as dressing areas or passageways to a sauna or terrace. It is therefore worth considering more atmospheric lighting as well. Indirect lighting can be created with LED strips installed above or below cabinets.

Better light supports both eyes and wellbeing
Lighting in workspaces should be:
- sufficient
- even
- shadow-free
- suitable for the room’s requirements, including protection ratings where necessary
