Sustainability at Airam
Our sustainability approach focuses on four themes: ethical and profitable business, social responsibility, environmental responsibility, and supply chain management.

Ethical and profitable business
Our operations are guided by ethical principles and financial viability. We develop our business consistently based on these principles and shape our product and service selection to meet the needs of our customers. Profitable business creates the conditions to invest in social and environmental responsibility. Airam’s ethical principles apply to all employees and the board.

Social responsibility
At Airam, social responsibility means safe and healthy working conditions as well as equal and fair treatment. We offer our employees meaningful work in a safe and inspiring environment. At the same time, we take broader responsibility by developing Finnish expertise. Equal treatment of people is an important value for Airam. We are committed to promoting equality and preventing discrimination both in our own operations and in our supply chain.

Environmental responsibility
We recognize the environmental impacts of our operations and work to reduce them both in our own activities and in our products – from design to recycling. We comply with the environmental legislation and regulatory requirements applicable to our operations. Each year we calculate the carbon footprint of our entire value chain in accordance with the GHG Protocol and have set an emissions target in line with the Science-based Target initiative. The majority of our emissions arise from the energy consumed when our customers use our luminaires and other electrically powered products. Therefore we set a target complementing our SBTi commitment to reduce our products’ emissions by 30% by 2030.

Supply chain management
Our responsibility for people, the economy and the environment does not end within our own walls. We develop the responsibility of our supply chains by working with long-term subcontractors and partners. Our products are manufactured in Finland, Europe and Asia. Procurement chains to raw materials extend even further. We recognize the challenges related to long supply chains, such as difficulties in traceability and the limited actual ability to influence the origin, production conditions, or environmental impacts of the rare raw materials required in electrical and electronic devices. We monitor the ethics of production in high-risk countries, the realization of human rights, and the environmental impacts of production through amfori BSCI audits.
